C. Rice has been farming for almost 30 years. She raised tobacco, cattle, chicken, turkeys and a variety of vegetables. Candice would like to continue to farm and is looking to diversify farm production.

With the help of her extension agents Candice was able to inoculate 500 logs with shitake mushrooms and purchase a dehydrator and vacuum sealer. She plans on creating value-added products using her new equipment and crops.

Expected income from mushroom production and sales $8,000 - $14,000.

Because of this grant "I will be able start growing shitake mushrooms and purchase a dehydrator and vacuum sealer to create a value-added product."
