Fred Woodby is a full time farmer who has grown tobacco for 35 years. Mr. Woodby has a number of diversified projects to generate income on his farm. In 2005 he will be opening a road side stand on main street. Mr. Woodby will raise produce to cater to both the local and Hispanic populations in the area.

In the next 2 years Mr. Woodby plans to generate $13,700.

Because of this grant "I will be able to start a road side stand to expand our current farming operation into retail sales to local community."

With the support from NC Cooperative Extension agriculture agents, Claude Deyton, Stanley Holloway and Joyce Watts, Mr. Woodby will increase revenue to replace income lost from growing tobacco.
