Tim Hughes is a full time farmer following in his father's footsteps by working the land for a living. Mr. Hughes project demonstrates creative agricultural business solutions with the production of strawberries and raspberries. With the support of the 2005 WNC Ag Options program, Mr. Hughes will diversify and increase crop output on his farm. Through increased sales from crop production Mr. Hughes will increase his economic capabilities to grow his family farm.

The multi-organizational support from the NC Cooperative Extension and Mayland Community College’s Small Business Center is an example of the communities economic development.

Expected income from strawberry and raspberry production in 2007, $12,250.

Because of this grant "I will be able to expand our growing season and productivity and increase the diversity and quantity of crops being produced on the farm. It will also increase our income through sales to customers through pick your own produce."
