Season Extension

Anne Gaines Grier is selling produce year-round by growing winter crops, such as onions, leeks and garlic, with the help of her grant. She purchased tractor and field equipment and propagation materials crucial for a year-round operation.

Anne sells to area restaurants, local produce companies, natural food grocers and tailgate markets. Gaining Ground also offers a Community Supported Agriculture share from spring through fall.

"I wouldn't have gotten into the project as quickly without the grant," Anne said. "It would have taken me a whole other year to buy the cultivators. I was able to do it on the scale I wanted to this year, so I can learn on this land before the big move next year (to a farm in the Sandy Mush community)."
