Beekeeping

With the help of his children, Marshall Shipp of Watauga County is increasing his bee hives to sell beekeeping supplies, candles, skin-care products and honey, including creamed varieties.

He designed his hives so that he can transport them between locations and the bees can feed on pollinating trees at their prime time.

"This grant enabled us to jump up our numbers (of bees) quicker and allowed us to purchase packages of bees," Marshall said. "We doubled our numbers."
