Livestock

Ron and Cheryl Searcy of Wells Farm in Transylvania County have started a land-clearing and weed-management business using goats. Ron temporarily fences goats on his customers' properties to control unwanted brush.

With the grant, Searcy purchased a gasoline power fencing system and other equipment to save time and labor.

"The equipment has taken a lot of manual labor
out of it," Ron said. "We couldn't move around
as quickly as we do without it. We can reach
more farms this way."
