Linda Raper, Rogue Harbor Farm

"We could not have purchased this high tunnel without the AgOptions grant, plain and simple.  I look forward happily to many years of tomato growing as a result!" ~Linda Raper

Heirloom & Grape Tomato Hoophouse - $3,000

The Rapers grew tobacco from 1978 to 1996, along with livestock, Fraser Firs and vegetables, which are now the main part of their operation. To meet market demand, Linda will construct a high tunnel for 150 additional tomato plants with her award. Her certified organic tomato production area will double in less overall space, and her springs will have less pressure since she will irrigate with water from an existing potable water well near the proposed site.

The project will allow her to maximize income from the row space, decrease fieldwork, and decrease field crops dependent on rainfall. She markets wholesale through Carolina Organic Growers, Greenlife Grocery, food co-ops and Madison Family Farms.
