Ernie Dollar Organic Greenhouse Vegetables - $6,000 Ernie raised tobacco, beef cattle and hay from 1983 to 2008. With his award, he will set up a cold frame to grow and sell organic produce locally, a need in Watauga County. He currently plans to concentrate on off-season kale and summer basil the first year and tomatoes the second year. He will sell at the Boone farmers market and New River Organic Growers, which markets to restaurants. He may also sell to a local farm that plans to increase their CSA membership and has a need for additional produce.
