$3,000—Sustainable Vegetable Production
Joseph is diversifying his nursery and landscaping business, which has been in operation since 1997, by adding heirloom vegetables grown with organic methods. The additional crops help keep the viability of the Bethel Valley farm, which has been in his family for more than 200 years.
He said he and his wife Tara, who has a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics, are “very passionate about feeding our family and our community organically grown, high quality, heirloom produce.”
Purchases include: a large-capacity sprayer for organic pest controls, seeds, drip tape and a pump. Joseph sells to local restaurants, such as Blue Rooster Southern Grill, at tailgate markets, and to Community Supported Agriculture members. He plans to open the farm to the public with regular field days and farm tours.
