The Bunny Barn – $6,000
The Harrills are full-time farmers, who have grown berries since 2000 to process gourmet jam to sell at open-air markets, festivals, online, groceries, restaurants and gift shops across the southeast. They also raise rabbits to use the manure for fertilizer, and sell the meat to chefs and individual consumers.
With the award, they will construct a rabbit barn and sanitary processing facility, allowing them to quadruple their production of rabbits, responding to unsatisfied demand. They are improving both efficiency and harvest sanitation.
This project will ensure a seasonably stable income flow for Imaldris Farm, and with an increase in profit, the farm can purchase more berries from other growers in the area, assisting agriculture as a whole. See www.imladrisfarm.com.
