Joan and Carl Chesick, Green Goddess Farm & Apiary
$6,000 — Heckuva Honey House
With the construction of a new structure for their apiary, the Chesicks are raising production by 500 percent and providing local beekeepers with adapted queens and starter hives. The building includes areas for extracting honey, storing honey at a constant temperature and preparing value-added bee products.
In three years, they expect to raise their honey production from 65 gallons annually to 300 gallons, as well as increase their sales of queens from a few dozen to several hundred and their starter hives from 25 to 100. The structure also helps them meet anticipated food safety requirements.
