James Jenkins, Jenkins Angus Farm

AI Cattle Working System
Grant Award: $6,000

To double profits and significantly increase his herd’s value, James added a sweep system and squeeze chute to artificially inseminate 90% of his cattle annually.

Previously, he could only AI 30% of his herd. Using genetically superior semen as often as possible will ensure a herd that will continue to improve, producing a genetically grander Angus.

The new sweep system replaces a homemade outdated head gate and has enabled him to work more cattle faster and safer. The system also reduces stress on the cattle, resulting in higher AI success percentages.

This safe, contained system has also allowed him to open his farm to 4-H clubs, FFA groups and other interested educational organizations looking to learn more about life cycles and ecosystems at the farm in a safe environment.
