James Jenkins, Jenkins Angus Farm

$6,000 — AI Cattle Working System

To double profits and significantly increase his herd’s value, James will be adding a sweep system and squeeze chute to artificially inseminate 90% of his cattle annually. Currently, he can only AI 30% of his herd. Using genetically superior semen as often as possible will ensure a herd that will continue to improve, producing a genetically grander Angus. The new sweep system will replace a homemade outdated head gate and will enable him to work more cattle faster and safer. The system will also reduce stress on the cattle, resulting in higher AI success percentages. This safe, contained system will also allow him to open his farm to 4-H clubs, FFA groups and other interested educational organizations looking to learn more about life cycles and ecosystems at the farm in a safe environment.
