2009 Recipient: Glenn Carson

"The WNC AgOptions money will enable us to overcome the biggest hindrance to production in our apple business thus far – pest control." ~ Glenn Carson

Two Buddies Heirloom Apples – $3,000

Glenn operates a 30-acre farm, with 17 acres devoted to grain production, 3-4 acres for nursery crops and the remaining in pasture. He has grafted more than 1,000 heirloom apples for ten years. With the award, he will build raised beds with drip irrigation to accommodate young grafts for the first two years or until they are large enough to be field planted.

Glenn has typically struggled with damage due to pests and drought during this stage of growth. He hopes to double his yield, selling his trees locally to individuals and supply stores, primarily advertising through word-of-mouth.
