Dibe is transitioning 12 acres of pumpkins from plastic mulch production to no-till. The new system adds organic matter to the soil and limits the soil erosion in his fields, currently a challenge on the farm’s rolling hills. With the purchase of a Monsem NG No-Till planter, Dibe can effectively drop the pumpkin seed into cover crop residue.
The Ducketts sell pumpkins at two family-owned roadside stands and the WNC Farmer’s Market. They are also opening the farm to the public for the first time in 2010 by inviting school children to tour the farm.
