2005 Farm: Skipper Russell

Because of this grant "I will continue farming and replace the lost income from tobacco with a new agriculture business venture in bell peppers."

– Skipper Russell
Haywood County

Skipper Russell has grown tobacco for 28 years and is now looking to transition from tobacco to bell peppers. In order to transition farm operations, Mr. Russell will need sticks, a plant setter, sprayer, and irrigation station. With the financial support of the NC Cooperative Extension’s 2005 WNC Ag Option grant program Mr. Russell hopes to continue farming long into the future.

Expected income from bell pepper sales in first year is $24,000.

Skipper Russell is working closely with his NC Cooperative Extension Agent.
