$2,500 — Frasier Firs
Tobacco is no longer a profitable farm endeavor for us… by diversifying our farm production into Fraser fir transplants, we will sustain the productivity of our farm by providing additional income.” ~ Boyd Stein
Boyd Stein’s family has relied on income from tobacco production since the 1940’s. Mr. Stein has worked to diversify his income on the farm by investing in the commercial production of Christmas trees. Through the grant Mr. Stein will produce bare-root Fraser fir transplants from seedlings for commercial use, and he will convert previous tobacco land into transplant beds for Fraser Fir production.
Expected income from this project in next two years is $4,200.
Boyd Stein is working closely with his NC Cooperative Extension Agent, Jerry Moody.
